(1) How would you check the engine oil level.  Identify the dipstick pull it out and clean it , put the dipstick back in and pull it out again. Describe checking the oil against the max. and min. mark. Ensure the engine is cold and car is on flat ground to enable you to get an accurate reading. The reading should be closer to the max. than the min. mark. If your car is low in oil unscrew oil cap and add a small amount of oil and take a fresh reading. If your car needs regular oil top ups you should have your car checked for oil leaks by a competent person.

(2) How would you check the brake fluid level in your car. Identify the brake fluid container, on the side of the container you will see a max. and min. mark. The fluid should be closer to the max, than the min. mark. Ensure your car is on flat ground to get an accurate reading. If you need to top up frequently you may have a leak so have the system checked.

(3) How would you check the window washer fluid. Identify the window wash container. Open the cap and top up with water or a screen wash on a regular basis.

(4) How would you check the coolant level. Identify the coolant container there will be a max. and min. mark on the side of the coolant container the fluid should be closer to the max. than the min. mark. Ensure you car is parked on flat ground to enable you to  get an accurate reading.

(5) How would you check your power steering is working before you start a journey. Gentle pressure on the steering to the right or left . Maintain the pressure while starting the engine this should result in slight but noticeable movement as the system begins to operate. Power steering may be electronic or fluid based . If it is fluid based identify the container and check the fluid level.

(6) How would you check the handbrake for wear. When the handbrake is applied it should secure itself and it should not be at the end of its working travel.
