Hazards and Reaction Faults.

A hazard is anything that causes you to alter speed or change course.

Examples of reaction faults.

(1) Driving towards parked cars on the left and not moving out in good time.

(2) Where you vision is diverted down to the controls for an extended period eg. looking at gear stick.

(3) Where you brake hard on an amber light and it would be more appropriate to carry on.

(4) Where you drive into cause or contribute to a bottleneck.

(5) Where you turn from a major road into a minor road which is narrow and a vehicle which intends to emerge has to reverse out of the way.

(6) Where you follow overtaking vehicles blindly.

(7) Approaching traffic lights that have been green for some time and not showing anticipation.

(8) Making exaggerated use of the mirrors which detracts from forward observations.

(9) Making Exaggerated/unnecessary observations to the side or rear which detracts from forward observations.

(10) On a slip road intending to join a dual carriageway stopping unnecessarily.

(11) Splashing pedestrians with surface water.

(12) When turning right misreading the intention of another oncoming road user who is also turning right and cause an unnecessary obstruction.

(13) Where forward visibility is restricted by condensation.

(14) When you do not react correctly to ramps.
