Carton School of Motoring can offer driving pretests of local driving test routes. Our instructors can use your own vehicle for the pretest. We’re also very happy to aid you in your preparation for the Tallaght Driving Test by providing an overview of each test route below.
Drive out of the car park in 1st gear and turn right onto Broomhill Road (50kph zone), drive to the T junction and turn left onto Greenhills Road (stop at the line).
On the Greenhills Road (60kph zone) drive to the second set of traffic lights and turn right into Castletymon Road.
Take the next right turn into Tymonvill Road and the next left into Tymonvill Park, follow the course of the road to the right and pull in on left hand side to do hill start.
After hill start drive to the end of the road and turn left onto Tymon North Avenue, drive to the next T junction and turn right onto Tymon North Road.
Drive down this road, it takes you directly onto Aengus Road and you may be asked to do a reverse around the corner into Aengus Park.
After reverse around the corner move up to T junction and turn left onto Aengus Road. Drive around bend and as you are going down the hill take the right turn before the T junction into Saint Aengus Cresent. You will be asked to do the turnabout in this road, after turnabout you may be asked to do the hand signals.
Drive up to T junction and turn right into Saint Aengus Road and the next right into Castletymon Road, on this road you will cross a series of high ramps, drive all the way to the T junction and turn left.
Drive up to the next traffic lights and turn left onto the Tallaght Road. Drive down this road to the roundabout and take the 3rd exit which takes you back up the Tallaght Road, take the 1st left into Glenview Park and an immediate right. Drive down past the shops to the T junction and turn right, drive up to T junction and turn left onto the Tallaght Road.
Drive down the Tallaght Road (50k) past Lidl and when you reach the traffic lights at the crossroads turn right onto Greenhills Road (50k) and further on (60k).
Drive up past the traffic lights and turn right, take the next road to the left and at the T junction turn left, drive up to the next T junction and turn left onto Greenhills Road and the next right onto Broomhill Road, past the junction with Broomhill Drive and turn into the Test Centre in 1st gear and find a suitable place to park.
Drive out of the test centre in 1st gear and turn right onto the Broomhill Road (50kph zone) and drive up to T junction and turn left onto Greenhills Road. Take an immediate right turn.
Drive down this road and take the next road to the right, drive up to the T junction and turn right, and drive up to the T junction at Greenhills Road and turn left (60kph zone), drive straight on at traffic lights and speed limit reduces further to a 50kph zone.
When you reach the traffic lights at the crossroads turn left on to the Tallaght Road, drive up past Lidl and turn left into Bancroft Road. Take the next right into Bancroft Grove, you will be doing a reverse around the corner in this location.
Drive back out to Tallaght Road and turn left (50kph zone), drive up to the traffic lights and turn left into Castletymon Road. Drive up this road past Basketball Arena and take the left turn after the pedestrian lights into Saint Aengus Road. When you pass the junction on the left pull up and do hill start.
After the hill start move off and take the third turn to the right into Saint Aengus Park for turnabout and hand signals. Drive back up to the junction with Aengus Road and turn right, drive down this road and take the 6th turn to the left into Tymon North Avenue, take the next turn to the right into Tymonville Park, drive straight on and follow the course of the road to the left, at T junction turn right into Tymonville Road.
Drive up to the T junction and left into Castletymon Road, drive up to the traffic lights at Greenhills Road and turn left. Drive down Greenhills Road to the next traffic lights and turn right into Maberry Road, drive down to the end of the road and turn left at the traffic lights on to the Belgard Road and take the next road to the left into Airton Road.
Drive down Airton Road and turn left at green post box into Broomhill Road, go around sharp bend to the right and take first entrance on your right into test centre, turn into centre in 1st gear and find a suitable place to park.
Drive out of the test centre in first gear and turn left, drive up to the T junction and turn right into Airton Road. Drive up Airton Road (50 kph zone) to the traffic lights and turn right into Belgard Road. Drive past the silver railings and on your left take the slip road to the left.
Drive up to the roundabout and take the 2nd exit and take the next left turn into Belgard Heights. Take the next left and next right, drive up this road and do your reverse around the corner at the first left hand turn.
After you have reverse done go up to T junction and turn left, drive up to the next T junction and turn left, do your turnabout and hand signals.
Move off and turn right down the road you came up originally, take the first left into The Oaks, take the next left turn into The Rise and after the shops pull in on the left and do hill start.
Move off after hill start and take the next right hand turn, and next left followed by an immediate right, stop at stop sign. Turn left into Cookstown Road, drive down past Roadstone and when you reach the traffic lights at the crossroads turn right into Katherine Tynan Road, keep to the right lane and take the next left into Cairnwood Avenue (50kph zone), drive to the end of the road and turn left onto Maplewood Road.
Drive up this road and take the 2nd exit at the roundabout into Alderwood Road, take the 2nd left into Alderwood Way and at the T junction turn right into Alderwood Park. Drive down to the T junction with the Old Blessington Road and turn right. Take the next left. Stop over the arrow on the road if the light is red.
Drive out onto Tallaght Bypass (80kph zone) and go to the next traffic lights and turn left. Drive up to the traffic lights at Belgard Square North and turn right over LUAS line towards the hospital. Drive straight on at the next two roundabouts and turn left at the following roundabout onto the Belgard Road.
Drive up the Belgard Road to the traffic lights and turn right into Airton Road. Drive down Airton road and turn left at the green post box, drive around the sharp right hand bend and turn into the next entrance on your right. Drive in at 1st gear and park.
Drive out of the test centre in first gear and turn left into Broomhill Road. Drive up to the T junction and turn right into Airton Road, drive up to the traffic lights and turn left into Belgard Road. Drive straight on at the roundabout and at the next traffic lights turn right, keeping to the right hand lane when you do so.
Drive up to the next traffic lights and turn right into Belgard Square East. Drive up to the roundabout and turn left and straight on at the next roundabout.
Drive up to the traffic lights and the T junction and turn right into Cookstown Way, drive up to the 2nd set of traffic lights and turn right into Second Avenue Cookstown Industrial Estate. Drive up to the roundabout and turn left and go to the next roundabout and turn right.
Drive to the next roundabout and turn left onto Old Belgard Road. Drive up to the traffic lights at the crossroads and turn right, keeping to the right lane as you do so. At the next traffic lights turn right onto the Belgard Road, keep to the left lane when entering the Belgard Road.
Drive down Belgard Road and take the 1st turn to the left into Mayberry Road, take the next turn left and next right into Redwood Drive. You may be asked to do reverse around the corner into Redwood Way.
After reverse move up to T junction and turn left, go to next T junction and turn right into Redwood Lawn, next left, and then next right into Redwood View. Go around the bend and do turnabout.
Drive back out to T junction and turn right and take an immediate left into Redwood Park and next right into Redwood Rise. Drive up to T junction and turn right into Treepark Road, hill start on this road.
After hill start go to T junction and turn left, drive down to the traffic lights and turn right onto Greenhills Road. Drive down Greenhills Road and just after Stuarts Garages turn right into Broomhill Road. Drive up Broomhill Road past the junction with Broomhill Drive and turn left into test centre. Drive into centre in first gear and find a suitable place to park.
