Car cockpit checks are simple, but they are essential. The car you are using needs to be ready for you to drive before you turn the key in the ignition.
Learner drivers should be able to do the following without any help:
- Ensure all doors are closed properly and the parking brake is on.
- Ensure you seat is set to the correct position.
- Ensure your steering is set correctly.
- Ensure headrest is properly adjusted to protect against whiplash. ( The rigid part of the restraint should support the back of the head)
- Ensure the mirrors are properly adjusted. Check the interior and exterior mirrors so that you have the best view. Know how to adjust your mirror so that you are not dazzled by a driver behind you at night.
- Ensure your seat belt is fastened and adjusted correctly.
- Ensure the gear lever is in neutral, or if you are driving an automatic that it is at P or N.
- Ensure you have sufficient fuel for the journey.
Never try to adjust your seat or mirrors on the move find a safe place to stop first.
